Our Vision
A revitalized Pump House would be the crown jewel of the City of Richmond’s already stellar park system. However, the building needs water and sewer hookups, roof repairs and an outside elevator constructed to comply with ADA requirements before a certificate of occupancy can be granted. A certificate of occupancy is necessary before public access or any use of the Pump House can be allowed.

Through your donations and volunteer efforts, we as a community can revitalize the Pump House and surrounding park to its former glory.

centennial celebration announced
August 31, 2024 - The Friends of Pump House (FOPH) today announced the official kickoff of a Centennial Celebration marking both the anniversary of the Pump House’s closure on August 31, 1924, and celebrating the start of its eventual re-opening to the public. The FOPH, with support from Historic Richmond, Friends of the James River Park, and the James River Park System, have begun the first phase of the building’s restoration, which will eventually lead to its re-opening as a multi-purpose facility providing both educational and recreational activities for the citizens of Richmond and surrounding communities. As part of this celebration, a number of public events will be held - please visit our Centennial Celebration page for more information.
