Paranormal Investigation

Picture
Saturday, October 3, 2026 @ 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.

Ever wondered how a paranormal investigation is conducted? Well, here's your chance! Our friends at Transcend Paranormal are offering a rare opportunity to join them as they investigate paranormal activity at the Pump House. In this event, you'll learn all about the tools and techniques used to detect otherworldly phenomena.

In order to accommodate the expected demand for this event, there will be TWO separate investigations offered. The first  begins at 6:00 p.m., and the second at 9:00 p.m. Each investigation lasts approximately 2.5 hours. Please make sure that you select the correct investigation time when purchasing tickets, as you will only be able to attend the session indicated on your ticket!

Know Before You Go
  • The Pump House is a historic site, previously abandoned, that is currently undergoing major restoration. Please enter at your own risk, and be respectful of the space. Bring your own supplies, and leave no trace.
  • All participants will be required to wear hard hats while inside the building, which we will provide.
  • You're welcome to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages if you like.
  • No smoking or vaping is permitted within the building.
  • There are no restrooms available in the building, but portable toilets are located nearby.
  • Attendees must be at least 13 years old.

Frequently Asked Questions
What time should I arrive?
Please arrive approximately 15 minutes prior to your investigation time.
Guests will be divided into two groups within each investigation so that everyone will get a chance to participate.

Is this building wheelchair accessible?
Since the historic site is undergoing much-needed restoration from its abandoned state, the building is not yet ADA-accessible. There is a new ADA ramp which will get you to the building, but you will need to climb stairs to get to the ballroom.

Can I bring my pets?
No pets are allowed (sorry!) but service animals are welcome. We would recommend that service animals wear some sort of protective footwear, since there could be bits of broken glass or other sharp items on the floor.

Do I have to buy tickets in advance?
Yes. We anticipate that this event will sell out quickly, and tickets will not be available at the door.

Where will my ticket funds go?
Transcend Paranormal is donating all proceeds to Friends of Pump house to support our ongoing preservation efforts.

What is Friends of Pump House?
We are a volunteer-led non-profit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and restoring the Pump House. Our members devote their time and energy to this cause in a variety of ways, including participation in monthly workdays, hosting tours and educational events, advocacy, historic research, and fundraising.

Friends of Pump House is fiscally sponsored by the Friends of the James River Park. The organization has been around for almost 10 years and has been at the helm of restoration efforts that have led to major restoration projects being taken on by the city.
IMPORTANT: Please note that there are TWO separate investigations. When purchasing your ticket, please be careful to select your desired time slot (i.e., 6:00 p.m. OR 9:00 p.m.). We will be unable to accommodate guests who show up at the incorrect time.
