Visiting the Pump House

The Pump House is located at 1708 Pump House Drive, not far from the Carillon in Byrd Park, Boulevard Bridge, North Bank Trail, and the James River.
Due to structural issues, the interior of the Pump House is not open to the public. You can however take a peek inside with our photographic tour here.  There is still much to see at Pump House Park. Walk along the canal and examine the remains of the locks that once served as a highway for goods moving up and down the James River. Continue along the path to the George Washington Arch where once pre-president George Washington met with local officials to examine the canal. Three informative displays throughout the park that provide little glimpses into the site's past.
